In fashion, trade is a crucial component. Whether it be fro getting materials, selling globally, or working with global brands, trade is always involved. However, in our current political climate trade is being limited.
In my opinion trade agreements are good. They allow the United States to work with other countries and whether or not it benefits us, it creates a positive relationship with other countries. An easy example would be our peaceful relationship with Canada, U.S. citizens have no issue traveling their or importing products from Canada.
I feel that trade agreements/relationships such as NAFTA, WTO, and TPP are helpful for the United States, because they allow us to have the protection of being part of a larger group. We are already a large and developed nation, so it is easy for other nation states to segregate the United States and look at us as a threat. However, if we work with other countries we are perceived as more peaceful, cooperative, and helpful.
Another issue in trade is a deficit or a surplus. A deficit occurs when a country imports more than they export, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes a country simply has enough money to import the goods it cannot produce itself. Also a trade deficit, from knowledge of international relations, can usually be resolved when a country focuses more on its own growth.
Overall, I believe our current administration is burning bridges by pulling out of trade agreements. In my opinion the United States is a fully developed nation and has room to spend money on fostering relationships with other countries to prevent conflicts such as war. We should remain involved in trade organization such as the WTO and should be continue to work with other nations states.
